As deliveries of COVID-19 vaccines to continent increase, logistics hamper immunization efforts – Africa CDC

NAIROBI, Nov. 25 (Reuters) – With deliveries of COVID-19 vaccines to Africa finally increasing, many countries are struggling with the logistics of accelerating their vaccination campaigns, the head of the African disease control agency said Thursday.

Only 6.6% of Africa’s 1.2 billion population is fully vaccinated, Dr. John Nkengasong, head of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), at a virtual press conference. That puts the continent far from meeting the African Union goal of fully vaccinating 70% of Africans by the end of next year, he added.
