Boone County sees increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations, active cases | COVID-19

Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services reported that 66 people are currently in county hospitals due to COVID-19, 20 of them residents of Boone County.

This is the highest number of hospital admissions since September 29.

Last Thursday, 58 people were admitted to county hospitals, including 14 residents of Boone County. The COVID-19 Information Hub data this week reported 21 people requiring intensive care, which is an increase from last week’s figure of 17, as well as the highest number of ICU patients since Sept. 27.

There are currently five people on ventilator support, down from last week’s eight.

Overall hospital status remains yellow for its fourth week, meaning all hospitals in the province are operating within standard capacity but are delaying non-emergency patient transfers and non-emergency procedures.

The total number of reported daily cases added together to 232 in the past five days, compared to 297 the previous week. This brought the active caseload to 441−, the highest since September 27.

Last Thursday there were 410 active cases.

The health department also reported two additional deaths since last Thursday, bringing the total death toll in the province to 177. They include:

  • One person was in the age group 70-74 and died on November 10.
  • A person in the age group of 55-59 years, who died on November 19.

The Department of Health and Senior Services COVID-19 dashboard now also includes breakthrough COVID-19 cases, or fully vaccinated people who test positive. The most recent data, released Nov. 14, shows that 26.78% of the approximately 10,700 total cases in the state were among vaccinated people.

Last week’s data through November 7 showed that 27% of about 9,500 cases were breakthrough cases.

Daily vaccination rates in the state continue to climb for another week. As of Wednesday, 60.4% of the county’s population had received at least a single dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 53.1% had been fully vaccinated.

Last Thursday, these numbers were 59.7% and 52.9%.

The Missourian is publishing the report a day earlier than usual because the information hub will not be updated again before Monday due to the Thanksgiving week holiday.
