The record for active COVID-19 cases in Boone County was set Thursday with 3,308 active cases, surpassing Wednesday’s high of 2,776, which surpassed Tuesday’s previous record of 2,454.

Tuesday’s numbers had surpassed the records of January 4, 5, January 6 and January 7, bringing record numbers for nearly two full weeks, except Monday, which had fallen to 2,032.

Boone County also continues to see the number of new cases rise, reporting 2,779 this week, with 748 on Thursday. This is a new record for cases reported in one day and the first time the number of cases exceeded 600. The previous high number of new cases reported in one day was 557 reported Tuesday.

The Boone County, MO COVID-19 Information Center reported 154 people in county hospitals with COVID-19, eight of whom were residents of Boone County. It also showed that 17 of the patients are on a ventilator and 28 in the ICU.

While the number of Boone County residents hospitalized with COVID-19 is the lowest since July, the total number of people in county hospitals with the virus continues to rise.

Boone County hospitals remain in yellow status for the 11th straight week. The yellow status means that all hospitals in the province are operating within standard capacity, but are delaying non-emergency patient transfers and non-emergency procedures.

One new death has been reported for the province this week, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths to 193. The person was in the age group of 55 to 59 years and died on January 8.

The number of vaccines continued to grow slowly but steadily: 64.3% of the eligible population of Boone County received one vaccination dose and 56.8% were fully vaccinated.
