(CNN) – Canada’s coronavirus vaccine mandate for truck drivers crossing the border starts Saturday.
The government clarified on Thursday that all truck drivers entering Canada must be fully vaccinated, whether they are Canadian citizens or foreign nationals.
That clarification came a day after a government spokesman falsely said Canadian truck drivers would be exempted.
The Canadian government announced the mandate in mid-November and set a date for it to come into effect on January 15.
Unvaccinated US truck drivers will be sent back at the border, while unvaccinated Canadian truck drivers will be quarantined and tested.
The US will issue a similar mandate to Canadian truck drivers on January 22.
Some are concerned that the mandates will further disrupt already tense supply chains, likely exacerbating inflation.
