Summit Counties drive-thru COVID-19 test site at Summa Health’s Akron headquarters is shutting due to a “significant drop in demand,” Summit County Public Health announced Thursday.
Sunday is the last day of testing at the site at 1077 Gorge Blvd.
The drive-thru test site is operated by Summit County Public Health, the Ohio National Guard, Akron Children’s Hospital, Cleveland Clinic Akron General and Summa Health.
According to summa, the National Guard is moving operations to southern Ohio, where the COVID-19 wave is mounting as demand in the Summit County community for PCR testing declines.
The test site began on December 28. Summit County Public Health previously said the site would remain operational seven days a week indefinitely, depending on community need.
The community’s need for testing appears to be diminishing after the hectic demand around the holiday season.
Summa said the site has completed more than 10,500 tests.
