Free tests available from Wednesday

We will update this story on Friday, January 14 with the latest news about the coronavirus and its effects in Oregon.

Free home COVID-19 tests available on Wednesday

The federal government will begin ordering free home COVID-19 tests on January 19.

There are four free tests available at: covidtests.gov and are expected to ship about a week after ordering.

Busy. Biden promised before Christmas that the country would buy 500 million rapid tests and distribute them for free.

On Thursday, Biden announced he would buy another 500 million tests for Americans.

Six more in Marion County die from COVID-19

According to the Oregon Health Authority, five more people from Marion County have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths among the county’s residents to 563.

They contain:

  • A 59-year-old man who tested positive on January 14 and died the same day.
  • An 85-year-old woman who tested positive on December 26 and died at her home on January 2. She had underlying conditions.
  • A 48-year-old woman who tested positive on December 22 and died at Salem Hospital on January 7. She had underlying conditions.
  • A 42-year-old man who tested positive on December 20 and died at Silverton Hospital on January 5.
  • A 64-year-old man who tested positive on December 29 and died at Santiam Hospital on January 9.
  • A 68-year-old man who died at his home on December 2.
