Mavericks forward Kristaps Porzingis, head coach Jason Kidd clarifies COVID-19 protocols

After a team-wide COVID-19 outbreak, there are no more Mavericks in health and safety protocols.

Mavericks forward Kristaps Porzingis, who has adhered to health and safety protocols for the past 11 days, was not listed in the team’s injury report and was listed as a likely start against the Magic on Saturday. Center Willie Cauley-Stein (personal reasons) was the only Maverick listed. Head coach Jason Kidd also stepped out of the protocols on Saturday.

Porzingis became the 11th Maverick since mid-December to implement the COVID-19 protocols on January 3. In his absence, the Mavericks racked up a six-game win streak, their longest win streak since 2016. Porzingis racked up 24 points in the first win of that stretch against the Kings.

In 26 games this season, Porzingis has averaged 20.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 blocks.

Forward Marquese Chriss signed his third 10-day contract on Monday under the NBA’s COVID-19-related hardship allowance. However, the contract was only in effect as long as Porzingis remains in the league’s health and safety protocols, or if another Maverick enters protocols. No Mavericks were listed in health and safety protocols on Saturday.
