It all began in 1894 with a small lingerie shop at 1 Rue Lafayette. Business thrived, leading to the gradual acquisition of not only the entire building but also adjacent structures. In 1908, the Galeries Lafayette expanded to a staggering 10 floors, covering a total retail space of 18,000 square meters.
