The Scala Santa is open daily from 6:00 AM to 1:30 PM and from 3:00 PM to 6.30 PM (opens at 7:00 AM on Sundays) The Scala Santa are the marble stairs that Jesus climbed when He was condemned to death. Brought to Rome in the fourth century, the were placed in the Pope's private chapel. About 400 years ago, the stairs were covered in walnut.
