During the first maintenance period, the Karel Doorman will receive anti-aircraft missiles (Rolling Airframe Missile, RAM) and a 76mm gun for self-defense. These capabilities replace two Goalkeeper close-in weapon systems (CIWS). The RAM missiles will be a major improvement against air targets, while the naval gun system will bring an improvement against sea targets.
