The Sijtje Boes Experience tells the story of Sijtje Boes. The famous lady from Marken who lived from 1895 to 1983. Her house is still in it's original state of 1924. All maintained very cautiously. The museum is audio and light guided, telling the story of living in Marken in the first half of the 20th century and the life of Sijtje Boes.

The legendary Sijtje Boes with her business instinct turned the island of Marken into a world-class tourist attraction. For over sixty years she showed her typical Marken house to visitors. In the Havenbuurt 21 house, Sijtje ran a souvenir shop where she sold windmills, clogs and tulips.

In the port of Marken is a house, named 'Kijkhuisje' which was opened by Sijtje Boes in 1925. Sijtje Boes was a woman from Marken who became one of the legendary figures of Marken. She gave tourists a view of a typical interior of a Marker family home in the Kijkhuisje. Kijkhuisje translates to looking in a house.
